This is the best time for small business and local business owners to get on board with internet marketing. The stuff that is in store for you from Google is going to blow you away and make your business more accessible. And get this, you won’t need the absorbant costs of high-priced web designers.

What Some Of Your Customers Do Before They Buy From You

Studies from DoubleClick and comScore networks note half of all online purchases are preceded by multiple product-specific searches.

Similar results are true with consumers using the web search engines as a research catalog to compare prices, researching vendors, products and shopping routes.

This means that 50% of your potential business never discovers who you are, what you offer, and how you can solve their problem. Which means you are flat out leaving money on the table.

The New Search Pattern

Unlike in the past when website visitors would search the web for research and general search ideas, now website visitors are searching with a purpose. They want to know something about you, what you offer and where you are and how they can get to you so that they can buy your stuff. They are drilling down their search for local shopping purposes.

So with with consumers becoming specific and targeted in their search, it is increasingly more important that you show up at a local neighborhood in metro and rural areas. So if someone is looking for your local restaurant or carpet cleaning service in your town, but you don’t have a web presence — what happens for you when they search “anycity+carpet cleaners”, — you got it nothing. If those “half of online purchases” search for you and can’t find you — they will find someone else and buy from them. But we want them to find you, so…

Google Answers

Introducing local listings by Google — it’s called Google Places. In less than 10 minutes, small businesses (brick and mortor) can get their presence on the web and optimized too. Google has made sure that if you list with them (for free), they will basically reward you with improved placements at the top of Google’s search engine for your search category and geographical location. Yes, all of this Google-local-business-friendly service for free.

In part 2, checkout a video walkthrough of how to setup your Google Places business listing.

The Next Step
You have to make sure that the niche you are deciding on has a large market, or a large demand with very little supply. You can do that by researching the keywords on that exact niche. Keyword Research is a different topic which I will cover in depth in additional posts. But just to get the ball rolling, login into your Google account again and come to this page.

So what does this tell you about your selected niche?
After finding a good niche with a nice demand, you have to brainstorm “What do people who are looking for my solution search on”, which keywords are they using to find a solution to their problem. Do that by thinking what you were searching to find the solution yourself. You can also use keyword research tools and software for that.
Now, you are ready to create or find a product, and put it into the “Internet Marketing Process” which I will be writing about on my blog in further trainings.

Everyone interprets Google Adwords in different ways. The key though is that you should have a process for determing what you are going to blog about or build a web business around based on some hard core numbers.

However, you want to get those numbers its up to you. However, you interpret those numbers are also up to you. But the key is do it. Begin a process of learning what to look for and what the numbers tell you.

Here is a great place to start

Now that you have the subject that you want to research and test for keyword strength — open a google adwords search platform. While it’s better to create a Google Adwords account, you can also access the Google keyword adword search right here Hosting Your Website

Hosting is the next step. Just picking a domain name and registering it is basically the easy part — depending on how you look at it…

Well actually it’s not. It is the goose that lays the golden egg, it’s kit and kaboodle, it’s the cat’s meow, it’s “sitting in the catbirds seat” — ok, ok, you get the point. Choosing the right domain names based on solid research is EVERYTHING.

So you’ve got the cat’s meow. You know what your blog is going to be about based on solid research. You know what domain name you are going to select based on your domaining business needs. Now you have got to have your website content developed and hosted somewhere, so people can find you and use your valuable service. But where will you host and how do you make the choice?

Hosting is the next step. Just picking a domain name and
registering it is basically the easy part — depending on how you look at it…

Now you have got to have your website content hosted somewhere. But where?

If you are really technical and want to get involved in higher end hosting solutions, then you will probably need to read
some other blogs for that information. We really believe in, research and try to work from the angle that simple is
better and you don’t have to do everything hard to make a good living on the net. So from that vantage point, we will
address the two biggest hosting alternatives windows based hosting providers, and cpanel based hosting providers.

Windows based hosting providers
Now here is a real simple solution to building a web business using a simple hosting solution. By windows based hosting,
we mean the back-end panel is navigated with drag and drop, graphics, and a simple structure that makes it easy to learn.
If you are just starting out, this is not a bad place to look. Just google a search for windows based hosting solutions
and begin your selection process from there. Just to make it a little easier, you can give these guys
a try first
Netfirms.

Cpanel based hosting providers
There are lots of Cpanel hosts out there too. Cpanel is not terribly difficult, but it will take a little bit more of a
learning curve than a windows based host. It also offers more functionality too.

Your choice will largely be based on how serious you are to do well in this industry by having as many advantages as
possible and by whether you have some of the initial ground work established and can take on a short Cpanel learning
curve.

Domain Name Hosting Considerations

Customer service -
When selecting a hosting service, customer service is paramount. You will want to consider the following:
a. Hours of operation.
b. Live chat and phone chat.
c. Email service.
d. What levels of service come with the hosting plan you choose. Will they assist you or actually transfer files for you?
How much customer service will they give you by phone, email, fax, etc.?
e. Is this a shared hosting service or your own host? Besides the obvious (in that a shared server is less expensive because you are on a platform with lots of other web businesse), your own server may be best. But that is a decision you can make for yourself.

So where do you want to host? Do a little more research. Keep in mind what your needs are and if you are just starting out. If you are just starting out, then you may want to go with a shared hosting service with great customer service and many ways to acces them. After that, just use trial and error.

Don’t ever be afraid to learn in this business. Most of your domain business success will come in some of your failures. Just know it now — it’s part of the process. So don’t be discouraged, just keep going.

Domain parking for cash is a simple and effective way to earn a solid part time income. But don’t be fooled — it’s not that flat out easy.

What you may think when you see this post is that you just get to park your domain name somewhere and you will make
a boat load of cash. Not true — however, when done properly you certainly can park your name – somewhere – and make
a reasonable profit from a consisten flow of visitors seeking valuable content that you provide.

Do More Than Just Register Domain Names

Many of you own domain names that are just sitting with a domain name registrar. Every time someone types your domain name in the url — your domain name registrar gets free advertisement, free traffic and potentially new signups. And what do you get? NOTHING, they don’t compensate you for the referral — not even with a thank you.

Why should your registrar get that referral everytime. Why should’nt you profit from the traffic of that domain name?
After-all, you are the one that was bright enough to select that name and you already paid them for the use of their
registration tool.

If you are just domain name parking with them, why don’t you create a business out of your existing portfolio of domain names?

Great domain names to consider for a domain name parking business are:

1. Underperforming web domain names.
2. Domain properties that you are not ready to build out yet.
3. Domains that you are ready to sell for what ever reason.
4. Domain names that made good sense when you picked and no sense now.
5. Domain names that you thought were good names until you started following this blog and now you realize now – hmmm…. not so much.

Things To Consider When Selecting A Parking Strategy

Before deciding on whether you are going to park that domain name — think about this.

1. Do you have any real plans for the name within the next 60 days?
2. How often are people searching for these names — can you get someone to buy the name from you with little to no
traffic and at what price?
3. Do you see any long term potential for the name — say 3-5+ years from now.
4. How long have you had the name and have done nothing with it.
5. Can you stand to make an additional few hundred dollars a month per domain name?

As you can see with the questions — the types of answers that would clue you in that domain parking is the best course
of action is that you are doing nothing, and have really no plans for the name. And of course, making a few extra
hundred dollars a month is a good thing.

If those characteristics hold true, then your underperforming domain name may be a good candidate for a parked site.

What Exactly Is Domain Parking?

Basically, domain parking is where you will have a domain names that includes a content rich website that brings quality
information to your visitor while providing you with a few extra dollars for the trouble. Domain parked websites should
be fairly easy to build out and should not require the efforts a full blown website, but it shouldnt be just a junk site
with no relevance either.

Today, there are a lots of parked sites out there. Each parked site has something different to offer based on whether
the site is parked by the registrar, owner of the site or with a “established domain parking company”.

We coverered sites that are parked with the registrar earlier.

What about sites that are parked by the owner and the owner has chosen to — throw up — a few lines of information and call it a day. That’s not pretty or a good idea. Remember, true profit from a parked site comes from providing your sites visitors with good content whether that is downloads, articles, references, business listings, reviews, music, stores,
audio, video, interviews, coupons and so much more.

And with that said, there are some owner parked sites that are doing all of that above and then some.

Then there are the parked sites that are made available through some very good and some very not so good domain parking companies. This is not designed to be a review of any of those services, because often times when you can find 10 people who love the service, you can find 10 more who hate it. This is America — everything seems to be 50/50.

But I digress…

Domain Parking Companies To Consider

1. WhyPark – my personal favorite, great payouts, may have trouble with consistent indexing by Google, but as of this writing, I have not experienced that problem yet. They have lots of automated tools, good content, and helpful customer service… I mean really what more can you ask for.

2. Google Parking Domain Service – a decent advantage here because Google is less likely to discontinue your indexed site
once they’ve indexed it. BUT with Google — you just never know.

3. Sedo – More of a do it yourselfer, but well worth the effort because of it’s flexibility and resale market.

4. DevHub – low payouts, but may not have as much trouble with Google indexing. Jury out on that

For sure if there is anyone out there that has a particular experience with any one of these services, let us know. A
community that stays together, gets paid together.

With respect to your time, I will hit on the highlights of my favorite — WhyPark.

With WhyPark you can set a really “nice looking” template site with article content, nice graphics,
and ad links and all within 3 minutes. For real — I tested it.

Once that’s up, you can take it a step further and install money making apps.

WhyPark has 14 DomainApps installs that will help you to provide robust, in-depth content while providing your site with
deeper levels of monetization options.

It comes with analytics, revenue monitoring, and many other features that will really blow your mind away.

And if that wasn’t enough — all of that is in there “free” standard plan. I literally started making money within 2 days
of putting up my first standard plan domain parking site. 2 days — that has never happened for me before.

What Else Do You Get?

In addition to all of that, you can order custom services. Those services are really nominal, but will take your
parked name to a whole other level.

There is an option for advanced domain name parking by purchasing there Enhanced or Managed plan at $10/month and
$25/month respectively. Just for clarity, that is $10/month or $25/month for all of the domain names you have parked
with them — not each domain.

That is even worth it when you think about the level of support and discount on additional services that you will get
for the advanced domain name parking service.

If done properly your non money-making domains can start bringing you in a few hundred dollars a month and all you are
paying is $25/month for all of them. There has to be some cost to doing business. I think we can all agree, it can’t
get smaller than that.

Anyway, better than me continuously telling you about it, go visit them and give it a try it’s free.

What Are You Going To Blog About?

That just may be the million dollar question.

You know you are interested in blogging, but you have no idea what you are going to blog about. You haven’t gotten as far as blogging and actually making money to do it.

Who is going to pay to hear you rant about nothing. Is that what you are thinking? Probably.

Blogging Website vs. Traditional Website
This is not an in depth study on blogging sites versus traditional sites. This section is here just to highlight one signficant difference between the two. Blogging sites are basically a rolling list of articles, experiences, interviews, and much more. Blog content is added daily and in most cases — bloggers update their content 2-3 times a day. Traditional website offer content that is stagnant and not updated as frequently.

Both website business models though should have quality content and offerings. Both should offer the reader up to date and timely information about the particular topics.

After your further study into the two business types, you should really consider for yourself which one or both makes sense for you. This is another site that I have and it is a primarily a content site. I like both models.

Ultimately with both you have to enjoy writing, reading, researching, interviewing, educating others, and navigating the internet for the best ways to communicate value to your audience. So who is your audience?

Again, that’s all part of that million dollar question above. Because what you write about is ultimately guided by what your blog business is going to deliver.

Just A Few Blog Topics
Since I only know that you want to own a blog or website business (of course you do — you are at this site and you have read this far), then I am going to give you a few ideas on which you can write about. So here we go:

travel

education

sports

diet and exercise

news

food recipes

music

restaurants

photography

cars

blinds

ecofriendly

When I tell you this is not an exhaustive list — I mean IT IS NOT an exhaustive list. If you think about it, you can blog about it.

The next step is to determine if your blog about it or for that matter your traditional artile content website has the keyword depth. What is keyword depth?

How To Find a Good Niche Market

What you blog about is at it’s core what we call your “niche” market. This again is a very important first step.

By determing what you want to blog or start a website about and then being able to dig deeper with some keyword research and niche market development you are taking very important first steps to making sure your blog topic has an audience and an audience that is interested in what you want to share.

Knowing your “Niche Market” will make it much easier to find and create products to sell. You will also know exactly who you are selling to, and what your consumers are looking for. How can we be so sure?

Well we are “all” basically creatures of habit. Big adverstisers in the “real world” know who we are, what we like, why and how they can get what we like in front of us — almost no matter the cost. We are a consuming people and we have got to have it. The so it is going to be a whole lot easier in your marketing strategies.
The most important job you have is finding what we want and getting it to us.

It’s important that you deliver quality too, because we want that — and to build a sustainable web business — that will have to be a priority.

The second key to picking a good niche is you can’t be too broad. Broad categories like “cars” are reserved for those who have the money to market to a wide audience. You have to find a sub-niche within the car industry if you are going to make it happen.

So the more specific the better, because you know ‘exactly’ what your market is looking for.
A quick example for that: “Cars” is a broad niche, and it is of interest to a huge amount of people, but it is too broad. It will take deep pockets to penetrate that niche. So you have to sub-niche it with maybe “cheap cars” or “luxury cars” or even deeper niche into the cheap cars with “cars on a dime” or something like that.

One great way to begin your keyword search is by getting a free google adwords accounts. Then login and go to a page that looks like this:

Click the picture to see the enlarged view.

The best way to identify strong niches is to fill in the gaps — solve problems!
The better niches are where there is a problem to be solved. In other words, something that of interest to a group of people because they have a problem and are eager for a solution.

The reason is obvious.
1) The people who have a problem are going out searching for a solution, so it is easier to find them.
2) They are willing to pay anything it takes to get a solution to their problem, so there is a lot of money to earn there.

So, “How Do You Find a Good Niche Market”? The next step is to brainstorm your keywords even further to find those niches that have sub-niches. Doing this helps you identify things that are not just readily apparent.

Great time for a disclosure here. The niche can be a problem solving niche, fun niche (like gaming), or something else where there is what I like to call almost a “cult movement” around that thing. So when you are thinking niche don’t only think problems, think following, interest, movement, hot button issues, etc..

Blogging Mentor

Just like with any business you need a mentor. The best way to go about getting a mentor is to first start learning the business of being a professional blogger — a blogger who wants to earn a fantastic living — that’s my definition.

Here are five important first steps you should take to identify a mentor.

1) Begin Blogging -
Beginning blogging. It is important that you begin blogging. Why? Several reasons.
When you begin blogging on your own you will learn what it takes to blog. You will discover things that only trial and error can show you. This is valuable because any person who would mentor you would want to know how serious and committed you are to the time committment process, emotionally and financially.

2) Check Other Blog Sites -
Start checking other blog sites — like this one — to get ideas. Start looking at what others are doing. Make friends with other bloggers. We are a very friendly supportive community of people and we encourage each as long as you are serious and committed to the learning process. Did I forget to tell you learning to blog is a process.

3) Pick Three Sites You Really Like -
Pick three sites you really like. You may like it for different reasons like layout, content, writing style, keyword, etc Identify why you like those sites and what are some of things you would like to use on your site. Remember, do not plaguerize content or steal designs. Just use your research as a basis for crafting your own unique spin. Begin formulate ideas on how you are going to craft your site.

4) Your Mentor May Be In One Of Those Sites -
Your mentor can be someone you know and you don’t know. By learning all about your unknown site mentor — you are just learning their story and understanding how they got started. Use that as fuel for your business. They may have a unique business model or a certain style or drive. Be encouraged by that and use it to keep your fire burning as well as a remote guidance tool.

Having a mentor though that you can talk too is important too. Find someone in the industry that is already blogging and ask them if they will agree to guide you. You have to make it a win-win arrangement for both you. One way you can do that is to assist that person with some blogging projects like writing articles, research, etc..

You can pay them for their time if that is financially something you can do or you can just simply agree to split your website profits. The arrangement is up to you and that person. If you already have a good relationship with them, then it could be quite easy and smooth if not, it will take some time to cultivate that relationship with trust and everything else built into it.

Mentor Relationship Established -
Stay committed to the process. Come up with what your working relationship will be like. Try to be considerate of your mentors time because they too are still building their business. Do your best to learn a lot on your own so that you can share information and resources with your mentor. In the end, that is the way to become a bigger asset to your mentor and your learning process.

The more you learn, the better blogger you will be. And the more you will add to the mentor-mentee relationship. As your relationship progress that will equate to more earning potential for you and your blog. Why?

Your VALUES are determined by your ACTIONS, your actions, strengthen your ADVANTAGES, and your advantages create OPPORTUNITY.
